Spring has sprung! This means the trees and flowers are blossoming and summer is right around the corner. Do yourself a favor and check off some of those items on the “to do” list! Feng Shui also recognizes spring as a good time to clear energy and create space and cleanliness for new creative energy. Here are a few tips to do some spring cleaning and prepare your home for the summer months to come.
Clean all of your home’s windows inside and out. Getting rid of dirt and residue on your windows after the winter storms allows the springtime sun to shine in your home and it gives your indoor plants an energy boost! Some local window cleaners will clean screens, tracks, blinds, and windows for a reasonable cost. Spring is a great time to spend the money for an annual deep cleaning to enjoy the months of sunshine.
Make sure you are filtering out the seasonal pollen by replacing the filters in your AC as well as your HVAC. Filters have different Filter Performance Ratings (FPR). These range basic filters up to high quality filters that catch even mold spores and bacteria. It is recommended to change filters once every 1-3 months depending on the system and the filter. Make your own decision about the price you want to pay for new filters. This is even more important if you or your loved ones suffer from allergies!
This is a great time of year to do some spring cleaning on your spare closets and de-clutter your garage. This will usually result in unwanted items lying around your home, but don’t throw them out! There are numerous local organizations that are glad to have your gently used items. They have plenty of ways to put your old clothes and household items back to work in the community. Sacramento Valley Teen Challenge is a great option, and they welcome donations. They have a convenient drop-off location or you can even schedule a pick- up!
Prepare your yard for entertaining in the warm sunny months! Be sure to prep your lawn/garden with the right fertilizers to last through the summer heat. Check sprinklers, valves, and piping for leaks to conserve water in California. Make sure your sprinklers area set to water in the early morning. Don’t forget to check your deck/patio for any loose nails or warped/loose boards. Summer will be here before you know it!
If you have a pool, get started by removing any leaves or debris from the water and surrounding areas. Check the water level and make sure your pump is in working condition. Most importantly, don’t forget to check your pool’s pH levels regularly. Make sure your pool plumbing is painted to avoid UV damage to the PVC piping.
I hope these spring cleaning tips are valuable and help make your summer enjoyable!
